Sommerville House is a rebuild on a corner plot, and it treats its two street faces differently: a pale pitched volume above dark vertical fins, and a long perforated brick-screen wall that keeps the garden private without walling it off.
Inside, the plan turns around a double-height dining hall with a gallery above it and a louvred clerestory letting light down through the middle of the house. The living room is glazed along its length to the lawn, an open-riser stair in dark steel and timber climbs through the house, and the attic bedroom sits under the pitched roof with a skylight and a loft. Off the gallery, a reading nook sits on a net floor over the void.
