Clifton Vale House is a private residential project, with the very specific aim of creating an inside-out house within a tight site.
How do we design a house that makes the inside space feels being outdoor? We began drafting designs while exploring this question. And we found an answer. We carved out creative spaces from the unassuming ‘box’ shape; choreographed the entire spatial experience from entrance, to living spaces,
to private quarters; then carefully leveraged height and volume to add dimensionality to the spatial experience.
As a finishing touch, we created an open courtyard overlooking a pond, tucked between the living spaces to create a completely open interior space that sat harmoniously with the exterior landscape. The courtyard also functions as an air funnel, channeling strong drafts of wind into the house, while also allowing for natural light and air flow into the deep end of the party wall.
